We managed to do an edition of two-color prints with a single block of shina by carving the second color on the reverse side. There was one student who had no prior printmaking experience even he came away with successful prints. She also demonstrated the proper way to hold the paper, set up one’s workspace, and sharpen cutting tools. She claims she can print an edition of 25 in one morning and I believe her. April says she can print faster with a baren than printmakers who use a press. Printing starts from a balanced standing position with a quick burst of energy using upper body strength. Printing is not done with a press, but by rubbing the baren, a light weight disk, on the back of the paper. More of April’s tips: Your work table should be about navel level. April says the expense is due to the currency imbalance between the Japanese yen and the U.S. A small, 8 by 10 inch, piece of shina ply costs $6.35. The shina and carving tools are rather expensive. She uses the pigments from Art Guerra. For wood and carving tools she recommends McClain’s Printmaking Supplies. Driving cheap car rentals in San Jose is easy with these simple rules. However, you can still request to pick up or return your rental outside the operating hours with companies like Enterprise and Alamo. Most downtown rental locations do not operate 24 hours like some airport locations. Companies like Enterprise, Alamo, Budget, Service Rent A Car, and Hertz have downtown rental addresses, which provide a broad fleet of vehicles you can select from. There are several car rental locations in downtown San Jose where you can acquire a cheap San Jose car rental. Travelers entering San Jose by road do not need to go to San Jose International Airport to acquire a car rental.Overall, this was not a pleasant experience and I cannot recommend either Budget or Kayak. There was a tiny sign at the Avis drop-off location for Budget but it was not visible unless you stopped at the Avis drop-off location and looked for it. This forced me to backup in the wrong direction on a one-way street. When I went to drop off the vehicle, the entrance to the Budget drop off location was closed and it pointed me to Avis. I ended up having to light a match inside the vehicle in order to subdue that grotesque smell. When I picked up the car, it was clean, but it had that horrible "new car smell" in it that is really disgusting, especially for someone who has allergies. I did not have time to go back and complain, but it made our entire trip a bit harrowing, and I feel like I was ripped off by Budget. When I went to pick up the vehicle, they gave me one that I was not familiar with but which I soon learned was compact SUV. Due to the inability to have a car ready for me in the class I rented I would have preferred the “upgrade” to an adequate car but the agent would not agree without additional payment to which I did not think was fair.Ĭons: On the website, I had reserved a standard-size SUV. Eventually I was offered another luxury vehicle (supposedly in the same class), but much smaller and the entire weekend we had difficulty getting my uncles in and out of it. Again, I did not agree as a car in my category should have been available to me. Eventually a larger car was offered, but at a much higher rate. We went through the options and I explained, due to having two of my elder uncles with me and their need for a larger car, I needed something larger. I did not think this was fair so I did not agree. They first tried to down grade me to a lower class, but larger car. However, Dollar did not have the car I rented. However, see below.Ĭons: I rented a certain class for not only the luxury comfort, but for the size. Pros: The car was clean and the price was very fair. I will definitely be dodging their service in their future. An assistant manager in Daytona finally managed to put us in a minivan, but all of this took 20 calls and 3 days of painful dodging by their representatives. With enough frustration built, and the original San Jose office shinning by their absence, I demanded a simple swap of the car but they made me call 4 different enterprise locations in FL looking for an SUV replacement. At the dealership they told me that they can't service a car brought in by the customer. I called enterprise again and they told me to take it to the nearest dealership. I called the nearest Firestone and they told me they couldn't touch the car being so new and low milage it was the dealership's problem. Here, their first answer was that I should take it to a Firestone store to get it checked. When I called to alert the problem in California, they told me to go to the nearest airport enterprise location in FL. The internal electrical stopped working on our way there. Cons: We rented for a month an SUV in order to go from CA to FL. ![]() ![]() + Pause = Display the System Properties dialog box.+ comma (,) = Temporarily peek at the desktop.+ period (.) or semicolon ( ) = Open emoji panel.+ CTRL + Spacebar = Change to a previously selected input.+ Spacebar = Switch the keyboard input language.+ Z = Show the commands available in an app in full-screen mode.+ Shift + V = Cycle through notifications.+ T = Cycle through the apps on the taskbar.+ Shift + S = Take a screenshot of part of your screen.+ P = Open the Project pane and choose a presentation display mode.+ K = Open the Connect pane to connect to Bluetooth, wireless displays, and audio devices.+ J = Set focus to a Windows tip, when one is available.+ E = Switch to the desktop and launch File Explorer with the Quick Access tab displayed.+ D = Switch between Show Desktop ( hides/shows any applications and other windows) and the previous state.Users can begin to speak to Cortana immediately. + C = Launch Cortana into listening mode. For example, +1 launches whichever application is first in the list, numbered from left to right. + 1, +2, etc… Switch to the desktop and launch the nth application in the taskbar.Scan through the list to discover which would accelerate your daily computer activities. #Windows 10 windows button shortcuts windows 10We’ve put together a useful Windows 10 cheat sheet of shortcuts to pass along below. Some prominent scientists and lobbyists who preferred not to be quoted by name said he would be a disaster for NIH but others said he could be better than other alternatives. Rumors about Harris as a possible NIH pick have been circulating in the research community for days, to mixed reactions. Collins but I have only the highest praise for Dr. It's going to be a decision between the new administration and Dr. Harris says he's a Collins fan, too: "He's done an excellent job. Some Republicans in Congress, meanwhile, want the Trump transition team to keep current NIH Director Francis Collins on for another 4 years, according to a report today in The Hill Extra. There will be others in the scientific community who view problems such as the relative neglect of young investigators as an immediate problem that needs to be solved," he says. "There will be people in the scientific community who view reformers as something to be wary about. Harris acknowledges that he would be a controversial choice to head NIH. Although that idea also is controversial, Harris says future funding increases for NIH will depend on the "argument that more funding is a good investment because of the potential return to the federal budget," he says. Harris says that as NIH director, "I'd build on what 21st Century Cures started but use the position of the director to push these ideas even further." That includes also shifting more of the agency's research funding to diseases that exact a high financial toll on society, such as Alzheimer's. And a provision in an early version of Cures that would have created a pot of money specifically for new investigators was eventually watered down to an initiative within the director's office to oversee programs aimed at young researchers. One Harris proposal would require NIH to find ways to lower the average age at first grant by 4 years, to 38, but the idea has not gone anywhere. But some of his proposals have been fiercely opposed by the scientific community, who say they are not the right way to address the problem and could hurt mid- and late-career scientists. Harris's pet issue has been the plight of young investigators, who receive their first NIH research grant at an average age of 42. As a member of the House spending panel that funds NIH and one of the lawmakers who shaped the 21st Century Cures biomedical innovation bill, he has pushed for policy changes at the agency, such as requiring it to develop an overarching strategic plan. He was elected to the Maryland Senate in 1998 and to the House of Representatives in 2011. Harris was once a co-investigator on NIH-funded research as a faculty member at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. Harris says he has spoken with the Trump transition team about his interest in NIH and that Representative Tom Price (R–GA), whom Trump has tapped to head the Department of Health of Human Services, NIH's parent agency, is also aware of his desire to be considered for the NIH directorship. There will be people in the scientific community who view reformers as something to be wary about. "I have conducted both clinical research and basic science research. And I have the background in the political arena to understand how funding occurs, how policies can change in new directions, and how reform can be accomplished," says Harris, a fiscal and social conservative representing eastern Maryland. Harris says he knows that some biomedical scientists would view him as a controversial choice, but argues that his blend of research and political experience would make him a good advocate for addressing NIH's flaws and for growing the agency's budget in a time of fiscal restraint. Representative Andy Harris (R–MD), an anesthesiologist who has shown a keen interest in the National Institutes of Health (NIH) while in Congress, has put his hat in the ring for NIH director in the incoming administration of President-elect Donald Trump, he told ScienceInsider today. ![]() ![]() You click on a file in the Finder, hit the space bar, and get a preview of the file.
